GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:        

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction, especially effective At-Risk strategies
  • Ability to instruct At-Risk students and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
  • Must have proper, positive, and professional communication skills. This includes excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instruction based on students’ individual needs.
  • Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of English as a Second Language Program to facilitate student transition to academic English.
  • Reinforce concepts taught by the teacher and extends lesson plans taught by the classroom teacher for English as a Second Language (ESL) participant.
  • Assist teachers with resource materials to support instruction.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Use ESL instructional methods and materials as applicable
  • Identify at risk students based on student grades and test scores that are below proficiency level, and could include:
  • State Standardized Tests
  • Attendance records, discipline records, communication logs, RTI meeting minutes, grade retention records, and transcripts;
  • Develop and implement individual intervention strategies
  • Work with students to develop individual achievement plan
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Refer students for evaluation by district specialists as required.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participate in district and campus staff development.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

NORMAL WORKING HOURS AND DAYS:

  • Monday through Friday, during normal business hours.
