GENERAL DESCRIPTION: To carry out the mission of RMA - Texas by assisting in the assessment of students, maintenance of required state and federal records (eligibility folders), preparation and administration of ARDs, quality review of teacher submissions in support of special education IEP’s and required PEIMS and software data reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters degree in assessment or other appropriate area.
- Certification and /or appropriate licensing as a diagnostician or LSSP
- Prefer two years experience as a diagnostician or LSSP.
- The ability to communicate effectively, meet deadlines and review teacher submissions.
- A proven ability to relate to a variety of levels of employees.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and management ability.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Corporate Board may deem appropriate.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assessment and Diagnostic Support
- Effectively work with the Director of Special Populations, Superintendent, campus Principals and Central Office administration to insure sound assessment practices are in place to determine student needs related to special education programs.
- Reliably share assessment findings to a variety of audiences including instructional staff, students, parents and administrators.
- Administer student testing in a way that conforms with recognized “best practices”.
- Document assessment results in a way that effectively communicates areas of student disability and needed supports.
- Recommend appropriate instructional strategies and programming efforts needed to enable student success in the classroom.
Maintenance and Dissemination of Student Records
- Maintain all eligibility folders as trained by the special education director and as indicated in the RMA special education operating guidelines.
- Regularly review eligibility folders to determine compliance with RMA district policy and alignment with special education software data and PEIMS online secure system.
- Upload information related to student eligibility using the appropriate RMA Texas software
- Work with campus directors to ensure teachers have up to date information for guiding compliance with student service requirements.
- Review teacher submissions in special education software system to ensure tight timelines related to ARD preparation.
Training and Teacher Support
- Train teachers on how to submit timely and high quality IEP information and student goals in the appropriate RMA Texas special education software system.
- Inform all instructional staff on how to recognize ways to effectively serve special education students.
- Educate all staff on special education related disabilities, appropriate modifications and accommodations.
- Through effective communication – promote a sense of urgency and need for accuracy in all details related to special education service.
Parent Student Support
- Promote seamless communication and the meeting of required service through regular information exchange with parents and students.
- Communicate the charter’s commitment to sound special education practice.
- Invite parent and student participation in the ARD process and IEP development
- Ensure parents and students have access to student records and IEP progress communications.
- Maintain an annual calendar of events related to information exchange with parents and students.
Professional Growth, Development and Practices
- Attend annual trainings and or conferences designed to update assessment skills, changes in the law and best practice for special education.
- Assert the need for on-going training for all staff by making sure teachers, instructional assistants and administrators are familiar with how changes in the regulatory environment impact student service.
- Participate in internal RMA Texas Inc. training as designed by the special education director.
NORMAL WORKING HOURS AND DAYS:
- Monday through Friday, during normal business hours.
