TITLE:                  ESL Teacher

REPORTS TO:       Principal

FLSA STATUS:      Exempt

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  1. Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instruction based on students’ individual needs.
  2. Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of English as a Second Language Program to facilitate student transition to academic English.
  3. Reinforce concepts taught by the teacher and extends lesson plans taught by the classroom teacher for English as a Second Language (ESL) participant.
  4. Assist teachers with resource materials to support instruction.
  5. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  6. Use ESL instructional methods and materials as applicable
  7. Identify at risk students based on student grades and test scores that are below proficiency level, and could include:
    1. State Standardized Tests
    2. Attendance records, discipline records, communication logs, RTI meeting minutes, grade retention records, and transcripts;
  8. Develop and implement individual intervention strategies
  9. Work with students to develop individual achievement plan
  10. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  11. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  12. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  13. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  14. Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  15. Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  16. Refer students for evaluation by district specialists as required.
  17. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  18. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  19. Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.
  20. Maintain and improve professional competence.
  21. Participate in district and campus staff development.
  22. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  23. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
  24. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  2. Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  3. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  4. Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  5. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  6. Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
  7. Must have proper, positive, and professional communication skills. This includes excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Possesses excellent organizational skills.
  9. Must possess a sense of humor.

SALARY:                            Based on board approved RMA TX pay scale.

TRAVEL:                            Travel Required
